Instructions:

You’ll need a square piece of paper to begin. Even if your paper is not origami-style, it can be cut to a square using a standard sheet.

You can also use the reverse side of your paper if you have it. When your paper has different colours on both sides, begin with the color that you wish to be used for the crane’s body.

Fold the paper into half diagonally. Bring one corner up to the opposite corner. Once the fold is made, unfold it.

Fold the paper again in half, diagonally. But this time fold in the opposite direction. Unfold the folded piece of paper after you have creased it. There should be an “X’ crease in your paper.

To flip it over, turn the paper on its side so that the colored face is up.

Fold the sheet in half horizontally. The bottom edge should be at the top. Once the fold is made, unfold it.

Fold the sheet in half vertically. Bring the left edge towards the right. It is important to crease the fold and unfold it. Your paper should now be a crossed shape with four creases.

Bring the top edge down until it meets the centre crease. Well crease the fold.

Reverse the process by folding the bottom of the edge to the center. Well crease the folded edge.

When you rotate the paper, the face facing the user should be the side that is open.

Aligning the right corner towards the center of the layer, fold the left side up. Well crease the folded paper.

Reverse the step by folding the left corner inwards and aligning with the vertical line. Well crease the folded paper.

To the back of the sheet, flip it over.

Fold up the corner on the top of the layer, aligning with the vertical fold. Well crease the folded paper.

Reverse the process, and fold the right corner towards the centre. Line it up with the vertical crease. Well crease the folded paper.

Fold the top edge downwards. Tuck it into the pocket that was created by previous folds. Well crease the folded paper.

To the back of the sheet, flip it over.

Fold the top edge downward, then place it inside the pocket that was created from the prior folds. Well crease the folded paper.

While pushing down the body, gently pull the wings apart. Adjust both wings and bodies to the desired shape.

Congratulations! You have created a successful paper crane. To create an origami flock, practice your folding and color combinations. You can enjoy this process, and you will find that it is calming.
